Caron Kamps Widden
My life is always changing. I've recently relocated to Northeast Ohio after living in Belgium where my husband was working. Living in another country was a dream come true as I love to travel and explore and learn about other cultures. While living in Belgium, my husband and I traveled to ten countries. I kept a journal and notes along the way and tried to update my blog as often as possible. I climbed the narrow stairwells of ancient castles, lingered at sidewalk cafes, and wandered through museums, cathedrals and parks. We had traveled to Belgium before, some years back, so it was wonderful to actually live there and get to know the people of Flanders. I found them to be warm, engaging and friendly. I had begun writing Restoration before traveling to Belgium for the first time, and because I fell in love with the centuries-old Gothic beauty of Belgium's cities, I decided to include parts of Belgium for some of the story's backdrop, which added a unique view of modern-day business dealings in the Benelux region. After we moved to Antwerp, I revisited some of the places that were scenes in Restoration. It was quite moving to walk along the same cobblestone pathways and streets, to sit in the lobby of the hotel where my main character, John Greene, stayed and to drive through the countryside where he and Conrad Whittmer traveled on their way to Brussels -- all of it, just as I remembered.
Now, I find myself settling into life in Ohio, the house is almost done being redecorated, a few more rooms to paint and still waiting on shutters for my office windows. But, as always, I'm enjoying exploring the city nearby and the country roads that surround our new home. There's a lovely little lake across the lane from our house. Every morning I try to find time to walk down to the water and watch the day begin. After moving so many times and living in over a dozen cities, I can tell you, every place has its own beauty and people tend to be kind in their own unique ways. With an open mind and heart, a life can be made anywhere.

"Caron Kamps Widden’s novel is a vivid portrait of a family struggling to survive after a tragedy. Beautifully written, it is threaded with emotional truth as the main characters restore an old home and rebuild their lives.”
~Lisbeth Thom, Author of Row Away From the Rocks
“Caron Kamps Widden restores my faith in the domestic novel, the novel of ordinary people and their ordinary struggles and glories and passions, the novel written in clear, compelling prose, the novel you keep reading because you want to find out what happens to characters you have come to care about.”
~Howard Junker, Editor of ZYZZYVA
